This workshop covers the basic information and skills needed to offer birth assistant services in a community birth setting.  Whether you’re a doula or other birth professional looking to expand their skill set, a Phase One midwifery student, or someone looking to start their journey as a member of the birth community in this workshop is for you!  

Topics covered:

- Role & scope

- Setting up the birth space

- Tools & equipment

- Universal precautions and basic safety

- How to take vital signs

- How to find and monitor fetal heart tones

- Sterile vs clean

- How to set up a sterile field

- HIPAA & Client Confidentiality

- Basic charting

- Emergencies

- Clean up & tear down

The workshop will run 10am to 4pm both days.  Lunches will be provided each day for all attendees.  Please bring snacks, water, a notepad, and pen.  

A reduced fee is offered for midwifery students who are in a current apprenticeship and/or who are currently enrolled in a midwifery training or degree program, and is free for BIPOC and/or LGBTQUIA+ birth professionals and midwifery students.  

There are a limited number of spaces available!

CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER - January ‘25 Lactation Support Group

UPDATE - DUE TO POSSIBLE INCLEMENT WEATHER AND MULTIPLE COUNTIES DELAYING OR CANCELLING SCHOOL THIS MEETING HAS BEEN CANCELLED. Please check back for the reschedule date/time.

Our Lactation Support Group meets on the first Monday of each month at the Persnickety Crane Cafe and is designed to allow postpartum individuals to share their experiences with lactation and infant feeding.
